Confidence.
Life is a debate. You constantly debate with yourself about many random things. You debate on what to wear to go shopping with friends, you debate on what to eat for your lunch, you debate on the pioritisation of homework, you debate on your own actions and speech. You debate and decided.
To speak the truth, i was kind of upset when we lost the debate thing today. Especially when we felt rather cheated that we did not understand the format clearly and we all I screwed up a whole big chunk of my speech. However, after much thought, i realised that we don't deserve to win either. Firstly, we did not reaffirm our assumptions on the roles of the speaker but instead solely believed in the booklet Mrs Wong got as a handout to teachers. Secondly, i was contradicting myself and totally had no clear points, no flow and was stammering and saying alot of irrelevent and narrow information. Thirldy, we, as a team, did not work cohesively with one another. Thus, how undeserving can we even have the THOUGHT of trying to win today's debate, when we ourselves cannot even work together well as a team.
This brings me to my second point of debating with life. Rather evidently, someone had not been speaking to someone about a certain issue. Which a third party, promised that she would do so. Life is always unfair, you win some, you lose some, and people often feel very dejected when they encounter failures; or worse, the unfairness in life. For example, take an athlete. He/She can run like the wind, sprint like a cheetah and everyone acknowledge such a fact. Would he/she still be champion of the race if she/he has a very short-fused temper? Would he/she still be champion if he/she has bad habbits? I think so, i think the person deserves to win the race if he/she is totally talented in it. Why give the champion trophy to someone eles less deserving even if the person may have a nice personality? Is it unfair? Yes, obviously. Yet life is so contradictive, so ironic. We often set rules to " ensure fairness ", but fairness to what extent? How do you judge the fairness? Through baiseness? That is inevitable. Here i am debating about life, yet i may procrastinate in my actions, which makes the whole issue more complicated and much more ironic. Thus, since i have not attained that level of standard of discussing philosophy, i shall put this matter aside.
For practise in social studies, I shall explain to everyone reading this post like an idiot what i have been trying to say to far. Just in case a horny social studies teacher reads this and decideds to comment that it is RIDICULOUS that I, as a secondary four student do not know what WAS a base of comparison. ( Please, heavy emphasis on the was. ) I have been trying to analyse my mistakes in debate today which lead to the losing battle. Also, i wanted to say that life is full of contradictions, as long as we try not to think so much about WHY is life like that, and accept life the way it is given, we can lead a rather low profile life and enjoy it the way it is. Or, we will never have the chance to try changing life, and never tried to know if we CAN succeed.
Thank you, i guess that was rather nice. It was not very time consuming, neither did i feel pained writing that. Oh, and i realised i just contradicted myself, this post isnt very so happy afterall...
